As an outsider who didn't grow up in the fashion world, or start out in a career of luxury marketing or design, a runway experience might seem like an exclusive event where you aren't wanted; that is the feeling that I had when I started my path toward fashion marketing. My experience seeing runways was through media platforms. The front row always consisted of your favorite influencers who wore the latest designs that you would have to save at least four of your paychecks to buy. I must admit, going to a fashion show was very nerve-racking, but when I went, it was the opposite of what I imagined a fashion show to be inviting.
My first fashion show experience was at Philly Fashion Week, and it was a spontaneous decision. During that time, I was viewing designer Nancy Volpe Beringer's career on Project Runway and following the Made Institute, a fashion design school in Philadelphia.
Excited to make the 5-hour drive from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia, I called my mom and invited her to join me on the adventure. The next day, she was on the plane from NYC to Pittsburgh, and we left the second that she landed. We arrived to Philly 4 hours prior to the event starting. As soon as we got in our hotel room at the Aloft hotel in Downtown Philadelphia, we instantly took our showers and got dressed. The show was amazing, the drinks were perfectly blended, and everyone accepted us with open arms! It was an experience that I will never forget, and I was happy to share it with my mother; she's my best friend, the funniest person you'll ever meet, and an amazing travel partner.
